FAQs - tips and tricks about Alva

On this support page for our Alva self-closing corner fittings, you will find practical tips for correct installation as well as answers to occasional technical questions. If required, our customer service team will be happy to help you at any time.

How can cracking noises on the fitting be remedied?

1. Check the installation position: Ensure that the fitting has been installed perpendicularly. Alignment of the PT20 with the Alva corner fitting is crucial for noiseless operation.

2. Check the settings on the fitting: Check that the base plate is firmly screwed to the substrate and that suitable fixing material has been used. The surface should be level and stable. Also check that the inner part of the base plate is firmly screwed to the outer part of the base plate using the grub screws.

Why does the fitting not reach the zero position?

1. Is the fitting installed plumb?
2. Is the lower base plate firmly screwed to the ground?
3. Are the 5 grub screws of the inner base plate firmly tightened?
4. Is the ground level and stable?
5. Are the hydraulic channels blocked? (for further details, see below)

Certain tolerances in the zero position are normal and are influenced by the hydraulic design, manufacturing tolerances of the metal parts and environmental conditions (installation situation, door sizes, etc.).

How can blocked hydraulic ducts in the fitting be cleared?

1. Open the adjusting screws: Fully open the adjusting screws for the closing speed once (minus half a turn).

2. Generate movement: Swing the door back and forth 8-10 times to release any blocking particles or metal chips and allow the hydraulics to circulate freely again.

3. Readjust: Then readjust the closing speed to the desired setting and check the zero position function again.

Why can't the closing speed and latching action be set correctly?

1. Never turn the adjusting screws in or out completely. Always stop about half a turn before the stop.

2. Closing speed and latching action influence each other. An unbalanced setting can lead to malfunctions.

3. If the closing speed is high and the latching action is slow, the latching action has to slow down the entire energy and is overloaded.

Why is oil leaking from the fitting?

There are three possible scenarios:
- The fitting had too little oil from the start
- It arrived already oil-smeared
- It continuously loses oil after installation

1. Check whether drops of oil form under the condensation or whether traces of oil can be seen on the glass pane. A light film of oil on the metal component is normal.

2. If there is a clear loss of oil, the fitting must be replaced. Please document the case with photos and the batch number of the fitting and contact our customer service.
